Creating another family tradition, we returned to Moonfleet Manor to celebrate Kara and Nora’s birthdays this January.
The best thing about Moonfleet Manor is its location: very atmospheric, surrounded by nature with Chessil Beach and the Jurassic Coast nearby. A very short walk from the main house there is a restored farmhouse, the Fleet House with views over the Fleet Lagoon – this is our favourite spot to book! The Manor was built in the 17th century, it passed through several families and has been altered over time; its atmospheric location near Chesil Beach, known for frequent shipwrecks, led to its involvement in smuggling. In 1898, the manor became the setting for J. Meade Falkner’s novel Moonfleet, a smuggling tale inspired by the Mohun family and village.
A wonderful place to be, but unfortunately the restaurant experience continues to be average so worth going for its natural surroundings, but we are not ready to pay a premium price for average food so it may the last time we visit.

We loved our first experience at The Catch at the Old fish Market in Weymouth, so we had to return. It did not disappoint, we truly enjoyed their fish!

For Kara’s bday we had lunch (on Sunday) at Rockfish in Weymouth. Always nice to walk around Weymouth, an old fashioned small seaside town.
I have never had Gurnard so I was keen to give it a try. Glad I did, but won’t write home about it. We were all disappointed by the Rockfish experience, such a shame as we definitely had our hopes up!
