We stayed at Conacul Secuiesc în Coltesti – very well located, a beautiful setting at the foot of the Piatra Secuiului mountain close to many mountain walks and hiking trails. Authentically decorated with quality linen, locally inspired furniture, spacious rooms and generally a well maintained place with the slowest possible restaurant service we ever experienced.
- We walked from Conacul Secuiesc to Coltesti citadel, stopping for a chat with local, friendly people, curious to interact with visitors
- We walked from Conacul Secuiesc to Rimetea (5km) and back – a nice walk to appreciate the valley, a different view of the citadel. Great stop in Rimetea for cake and a drink at a super chilled and Instagram-able spot just by the church.

SEE
- I absolutely loved the Unitarian church in Rimetea for so many reasons. The look, the elegance and white simplicity you can spot from far. Symbolically, an early example to show different faiths can coexist and accept each other’s beliefs, the Unitarian Church in Transylvania has a fascinating and unique history, shaped by several significant historical events. Most significantly, The Edict of Torda (1568) issued by the Transylvanian Diet, the first legal guarantee of religious freedom in Europe, allowing communities to freely choose between Roman Catholicism, Lutheranism, Calvinism, and Unitarianism. This declaration enabled the Unitarian Church to establish itself and flourish in Transylvania.

- The water mill (privately ran) was pretty cool to see.
- The upper and lower rows of houses in Rimetea, beautiful walk to enjoy local architecture
TRY local beers:
- Ediktum craft beer got its name from the famous Edict of Turda in 1568, the historic act that proclaimed religious tolerance in Transylvania. It is the first edict of its kind in the history of modern Europe. The original document is kept in the Brukenthal Museum in Sibiu and symbolizes freedom of thought and diversity, values that Ediktum beer reflects in every bottle. Best way to learn history, beer labels, love it!!
- Csiki Sor – a Transylvanian craft beer brewed in the Szekely land region of Transylvania. As a marketer at heart I apreciate the way in which they responded to the lawsuit filed by Heineken in 2014. The brewery responded with guerilla marketing tactics and a social media campaign gaining public support showing how a small brewery can actually stand up to a global giant (now part of the brand’s identity).
